Coup on Ku’damm: Marmorhaus (Marble House) sold for over 40 million euros
The legendary Marmorhaus at Berlin’s Kurfürstendamm 236 has been sold.
Aachener Grundvermögen Kapitalanlagegesellschaft mbH with headquarters in Cologne invested more than 40 million euros in the former cinema, which was built in 1912.
Since 2006, the iconic property was owned by an Irish investment company. At the same time, the Spanish fashion company Zara extended its lease for the multi-storey store, which covers around 2,200 square metres.
‘The economic recovery has reached the market for inner-city retail properties’, commented Mario Hampel, our managing partner on the sale. ‘The Marmorhaus is the third huge real estate transaction we have completed within a few weeks’.
The Marmorhaus is one of Germany’s best-known commercial properties, whose history is closely linked to the rise and fall of Berlin’s Kurfürstendamm, once Germany’s most prominent cinema boulevard. For decades, the UFA (Universum-Film Aktiengesellschaft/ Universal Film Corporation) resided here – the company that made pictures work in Germany.
